Here, we’ll look at some ways to stay safe while touring this Scandinavian kingdom:
Hint #1: Try to “Blend In”
Do your homework before visiting Sweden, and you’ll be less likely to look like a tourist. Of course, you can’t help but stand out a little, especially if you’re snapping shots at a museum, historical site, or public garden. But, in general, try to mimic the attitudes and clothing of the locals so you’re not obviously from another country.
Hint #2: Don’t Carry a Purse or Fanny Pack
Although you may be comfortable with a small purse, it’s best not to keep your money or credit cards (or, goodness forbid, passport) in something that shouts, “Steal me!” Instead, keep your wallet concealed or buried under a coat. That way, pickpockets will have less of an opportunity to “lift” anything.
Hint #3: Don’t Travel Alone at Night
This hint is generally for the women, but it’s worth saying to the men as well. Just as you wouldn’t necessarily feel comfortable walking around your own neighborhood by yourself in the wee hours of the night, it’s probably best not to do so in Sweden. Instead, find a traveling companion or make friends once you’re in this Scandinavian hotspot. After all, there is a certain amount of innate safety in numbers.
By being just a little diligent, you can ensure that your trip to Sweden is free from any crime-related experiences. |
